Q & A

Questions and Answers

Q.  Do I need to register as a user before I can get a quote?
A. No, registration is not required.
Our website is an open source, allowing you to get your quote 24/7, without requiring you to provide any details.

Note: It's only if you wish to 'save' your quote, that you will then need to create a log-in account.

Explained here:  How to Save your Quote

Q.  Are you closed over Christmas/New Year?
A. Yes
The administration/quoting department will only be monitored periodically over the Christmas/New Year's break for quote validations, order placements and email responses.
The factories will be returning with a skeleton staff in mid January, and full production will commence at the end of January.

Q.  Are your prices competitive with larger hardware retailers?
A. Yes, definitely!

Q.  What sort of quality are your cabinets?
A. OzFlatPacks prides itself on manufacturing exceptional flat pack products, and all are locally made. We use the best Australian board on the market, the latest CNC machinery, and quality German hardware. Everything is 1st class and we don't cut corners.

Q.  Do your cabinets come with doors?
A. Yes, the doors and drawer fronts are included.
Our cabinets can be ordered with everything you need (i.e. extra shelves, handles, applied end panels, fillers, kick boards, etc). It's up to you what inclusions you add, as you can order exactly what you need.

Inclusions in an Example Cupboard explained here:   Cupboard Inclusions

Note:  Doors and drawer fronts are not supplied with the 'Carcass Only'' quote option.

Q.  How do I get a quote?
A. By visiting our website:   ozflatpacks.com.au
OzFlatPacks is a totally online quoting/ordering website, allowing you to create the quote you need instantly, 24/7.

  • Click on the "Start Design Here and Get Quick Easy Quote" button on the home page, then choose the room from the pop-up screen, or
  • Simply select the category you want (Complete Packages, Individual Cabinets, etc) at the top of the homepage
  • Start quoting!

Q.  If I select the 'submit' button on my quote, does this now mean it is a job?
A. No, it is not a job - it is still a quote.
When you submit your quote, you are simply sending it to us for validation.
Your quote remains a quote until a deposit is received.

Q.  Can you give me a rough estimate on what an average flatpack cabinet would cost?
A. Smart Cabinets are made up of numerous parts, and each part size varies in price depending on the cabinet's size (custom height, width and depth dimensions). Furthermore, there are further customizable add-ons, such as: type of hinges, drawer runners, and handle options - which also affect the price. The cabinet/s can have kick boards, seen (applied) side panels and/or fillers included. Finally, there is the material choice (colour & material selection) - all these factors affect the final cabinet price.

Q.  What is the minimum order quantity I can order?
A. Our minimum order quantity is...... Well, let's just say it depends on many factors, not just one. We are unable to give a blanket cover answer for this question that covers every situation. This is why every quote submitted needs to be validated by our staff, and only if required, adjusted accordingly.

All the prices advertised on the website for cabinetry, panels, bench tops, etc have been calculated on your order being a medium to large order (typically 10 to 15+ cabinets, plus panels and kick-boards as well). This is the size of a typical order we receive from Builders, Cabinetmakers, etc. that use our website, and our pricing matrix must fit within this criteria. This ensures the pricing is competitive, fair and correct. Pricing for smaller orders is different, and this is discussed in more detail further below.

Note: We are not a small order specialist company, nor is our price matrix set up this way. Our aim is to provide high quality, custom sized cabinets, at extremely competitive prices.

Unlike other modular or set-sized flat pack suppliers, we don't mass produce the exact same cabinet (only to have them sitting on a shelf waiting for someone to buy them). We custom manufacture every order to your specific sizes, so that makes us more a bespoke/boutique manufacturer. Whilst this makes the production costs higher per job (compared to making 100's of the same sized cabinets), it also means we don't need warehouses all across Australia to store them, and money is not tied up in inventory so we save money and the savings are passed on to the customer.

Q.  Can I order hardware only?
A. No, sorry.
We are a flat pack manufacturing business, not a hardware supply business. We can supply hardware, but only in conjunction with an ordered cupboard.

Q.  I have a small job, surely that means that I can get this quicker?
A. No, sorry.
Time frames for small orders are more difficult to judge, as it depends on what jobs we have in the system at the time the deposit is received.  You may need to wait until your job can be combined with a larger order of the same material.

Note: Tiny orders are not our market, nor what we are set-up to do. We are a bespoke flat pack manufacturer and everything runs-to-order, so we will first need to determine whether we can do this job in the first place, before we can estimate any approximate time frames.

Q.  I wish to go-ahead, what's next?
A. A 25% deposit is an acceptance of the order and will get your job underway.
Explained here:  Payment Methods
Explained here:  Job Acceptance Terms & Conditions

Q.  What are your Lead Times?
A. Time frames are based on the lead time of the materials ordered, the batching & optimising of jobs, and how busy the factory outlet is at the time of the processed order.

The following are typical estimated lead times (from deposit received to ready in the factory):
Carcass Only / Robe Insert Finishes: 3 weeks
Laminate Finishes: 4 weeks
Vinyl Finishes: 4-5 weeks
Painted Finishes: 12 weeks (there is an extra process of spray painting, so it depends on how busy the spray painters are at the time the order is placed).
Laminate bench tops: 4 weeks.

Note: Leads times also depend on material availability, current works loads of the factory at the time the order is placed, peak order times (e.g. Easter or the lead up to Christmas), and shut down times of the year (e.g. Christmas break, COVID-19 shutdown restrictions).

Tip: If you have other trades to organise, we recommend you do not firm up any dates with them, until you have received confirmation of your order being ready and complete in our factory.

Q.  Can you give me hints on the best way to measure up a room?

Q.  I have a budget, can you give me hints on where I can save money?
A. Yes, we sure can

Q.  I would like the inside of my cupboards (i.e. the carcass) to be in an alternative colour (other than white), can I order this?
A. The internals of the cupboards and the underside of upper cupboards will always be quoted as 'White', unless you have specifically requested it and have had your quote adjusted and priced accordingly.

Note: Any other requested colour (other than white) will cost quite a bit more.

Q.  What is the difference between 'Wardrobe Inserts' and 'Wardrobe Cabinets'?
A. Explained here: 'Wardrobe Inserts'' 'Wardrobe Cabinets'

Q.  I would like my wardrobe inserts in an alternative colour (other than white), can I order this?
A. Wardrobe inserts will always be quoted as 'White', unless you have specifically requested it and have had your quote adjusted and priced accordingly.

Note: Any other requested colour (other than white) will cost quite a bit more.

Q.  I started my quote this morning and came back this afternoon, and it disappeared, why?
A. If your quote has 'disappeared', this normally occurs because you have left your quote inactive for a period (greater than 20 minutes), and the online session timer has timed out. For example, if you have gone to lunch and have not saved your quote before you stopped working on it, then when you return from lunch, your un-saved quote will be gone.

Note:  Unsaved quotes are not retrievable.

TIP: The best way to save your quote is (after you have added a few cabinets) > Create a log-in account > then SAVE your quote. Then at anytime, you can securely log back on and edit/add to your quote as you need to.

Explained here: How to Save a Quote

Q.  Can I order profile style doors?
A.
Yes.
We have a range of Shaker, Handleless, Square, Arched profiles available (just to name a few). These are available in our Vinyl and 2-Pack Polyurethane Painted Door Range.

TIP: To view the profile > When you select the colour, finish, face profile and edge profile of your door and drawer fronts, drill into the blue 'i' (information) button, and you will see listed the type of door you are ordering.

Q.  Are laminated bench tops included in your cabinet price?
A. No. Laminated bench tops are priced separately.
Explained here: How to order a Laminated Bench Top

Q.  Are your products waterproof and can I use them outdoors?
A. No, sorry.
Our products are water resistant, but not water proof, so they are not recommended for outdoor use.

Note: We hope to have Alfresco type materials available to order in the near future.

Q.  I've heard that dark colours and gloss colour finishes are more prone to showing scratches, is this true?
A. Yes, this is true.

Dark laminate colours are more likely to show up even the slightest imperfection or light scratches. This is because the colour you see is actually just a printed piece of paper, and if this gets scratched or marked (remember it's only paper thick), then the white background comes through. If the colour is a light off-white colour, then with a white background you probably wouldn't even notice this at all. However, with a dark colour on a white background, the light white is highlighted.

Gloss laminate finishes are more reflective to light, so fingerprints, dirt, imperfections and scratches are more noticeable on them than on matt or semi-gloss finishes.
Note: A scratched laminate is not repairable.

Q.  Do you have any OzFlatPack showrooms around Australia?
A. No, sorry.
As we are an online business (not a traditional 'bricks and mortar' type business), we don't have showrooms in all states. We only have the one showroom, and this is based at our central administration office in Mitchell (ACT).

The reason why we haven't invested in showrooms all over Australia, is because our builders and other trades people don't want the extra cost added to the price of their flat packs (as they don’t need it).

Our primary aim is to provide the highest possible quality, but at the lowest possible price.

Q.  Where can I get colour samples from?
A. Most colour sample swatches can be posted directly from the manufacturer of the actual laminate. If you select the samples you would like, they will post them out to you free of charge!
Explained here: Colour Samples

Q.  Can I drop-in to one of your depots or factories to view sample products or discuss my quote?
A. No, sorry.
The depots and factories are pick up outlets only. All enquiries are via OzFlatPacks web central.

Q.  Are your cabinets custom sized?
A. Yes, everything is made to your exact order - we do not stock anything on the shelves.

Q.  Can I pick-up my order or do you offer a delivery service to my home?
A. We offer both, so the choice is yours.
Explained here: Delivery/Pickup

Q.  How much is Delivery?
A. Delivery is based on both weight and distance. Once you start to add your cabinets to your quote, the website will calculate the estimated weight, and then once you select your post code for delivery, the website will automatically provide you with a freight estimation.
Explained here: Delivery/Pickup

Q.  Why are there pick-up fees?
A. Pick-up is FREE, provided you have selected a 'Factory Outlet' (as this is where the cabinetry is made). If you are not close enough to a Factory Outlet, your job needs to be packaged (a special, custom made box is required) and on-freighted (via a national freight company) to a Depot near you, so there is a direct cost involved. Freighting a flat pack is not like posting a DVD or book, as the weight is considerably higher and so we must use national freight companies.

Note: The cost of the Depot pick-up depends on the weight, the distance from the Factory and the Depot type.

Q.  I'm organising a vehicle for pick up, how long is the longest part?
A. Well, that's easy, it's the longest part or cabinet you have ordered. If you ordered a storage pantry cabinet 2350mm high x 1150mm long, then the longest part is 2350mm and the widest part is 1150mm. So you will need to ensure that (as a minimum), your method of transport can cope with this size.

Q.  Are the dimensions that I enter all external measurements?
A. Yes, this is correct.
The height, width and depth of all of our cabinetry are always the external (overall) size.
Explained here: Width
Explained here: Height
Explained here: Depth

Q.  What is considered a "standard" depth bench top?
A. Bench tops along a wall are normally 600-650mm in depth (front to back measurement). Any deeper and it becomes too far to reach comfortably.

Larger or smaller widths can be ordered to your exact measurements.

Note: The overhang of the bench top is normally 20mm past the front of the cabinet, for example: If the cabinet's overall depth (including door) is 580mm (standard), then the bench top would normally be 600mm in depth (also referred to as 'width').

Q.  What is considered a "standard" depth base cabinet?
A. A base cabinet underneath a bench top is typically 580mm deep (or 20mm less than the bench top depth), creating a 20mm front bench top overhang forward from the door face.

Larger or smaller widths can be ordered to your exact measurements.

Q.  I'm not much of a handy person, so how complicated is the assembly and installation?
A. Our range of cabinetry is easy to assemble, as all the cabinets come pre-drilled, individually labelled, and each order is supplied with an assembly and hardware list for cross-referencing. This means you will be able to understand which screw goes where - this is unique to OzFlatPacks!.

An average cabinet takes approximately 20 minutes to assemble, and a typical pantry cabinet takes approximately 40 minutes.

Installation is easy as the plastic feet are all adjustable, and as the cupboard backs are solid 16mm board, finding a fixing point in the cabinet is easy. You can fix anywhere internally (unlike some of our competitors that still have 3mm, cheap, ply style backing).
Explained here: Assembly

Q.  Can I have my flatpack supplied already assembled?
A. No sorry, we don't offer an assembly service.

Q.  What is considered a "standard" bench top height from the floor?
A. 900mm is the traditional bench top height (inclusive of the bench top thickness), but we are finding these days, that taller heights are preferred. They are typically somewhere between 920-950mm high.

With OzFlatPacks you can nominate the exact size that suits you, so custom sizing heights is simple and not expensive.

TIP: Decide what overall finished bench top height you would like your joinery to be, then deduct the thickness of your bench top and the desired height of your kickboard, and the balance is the base cupboard height that you would order.

Q.  What is the maximum height of your flat pack cabinetry?
A. 2350mm high for a single tall cupboard (e.g. a pantry/wall oven tower), however if you stack another upper wall cabinet on top of this, you can easily achieve much greater heights. With our range, you can achieve the exact height (to the millimetre) that you need - it's easy.

Q.  What other cupboards do you supply (other than upper, base and tall)?
A. We supply Wardrobes, Bench Tops, Oven Cabinets, Microwave Cabinets, Corner Cabinets, Corner Pantries, Diagonal Cabinets, Broom Cabinets, Open Shelves, Blind Corner Cabinets, Carcass Only Cabinets, Appliance Cabinets (just to name a few).

TIP: If our range of cabinets do not quite meet your needs, please request it in the 'Special Requests' box, and we will review your request and advise.

Q.  Are bench tops cut-out for sinks and cook tops?
A. No, sorry.
This is a task completed by your installer on-site.

Q.  What type of edging do you use on your cabinet parts?
A. All parts are edged using Plastic ABS-PVC, 1mm thick, un-chippable, durable edging.

Q.  Are bench tops supplied with machined joints and joining bolts?
A. Yes.
OzFlatpacks supply bench tops with all joins machined, and have zip bolts for joining.

Q.  Are doors drilled for handles?
A. No, sorry.
Your installer will need to drill handles on-site.

Q.  What type of cupboard backs do you use?
A. All cupboards are supplied with solid 16mm backs.

Note: Backs are not needed in wardrobes (excluding the range of Wardrobe 'Inserts). If they had a back, you wouldn't be able to install these into a normal builder's wardrobe alcove.

Q.  Do you use 16mm board for your drawer bottoms?
A. Yes.

Q.  How long will it take to get my order to my home or depot?
A. Once you have been advised your job is ready in the factory and your final balance has been paid, your order will be released for freight or pickup.

Note: You will need to add a few days for delivery.

A.
Ordering of a cabinet is not required. Simply leave a 600/605/610mm gap (i.e. open space).

Q.  Can I order accessories and have the cupboard custom made to suit?
